Charles Wordsworth - Clergyman and Writer

Born in 1806, Charles Wordsworth was the second son of Christopher Wordsworth (1774-1846) - an English clergyman, educator and writer - and a nephew of the poet William Wordsworth. Charles Wordsworth became prelate in Scotland; was warden of Trinity College, Glenalmond (1847-54); and, consecrated bishop of St. Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane (1853). he was involved in attempts to reunite the Churches of Scotland and England. Charles Wordsworth died in 1892.
Like his father, Christopher Wordsworth the youngest son of his namesake, was a clergyman, educator and theological scholar. He was born in 1807; ordained a priest in 1835; headmaster of Harrow (1836-44); and, then canon, then archdeacon of Westminster. he died in 1885 |
